Chisinau, 16 February /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu has come up with a message, following the death of Russian opponent Aleksey Navalny, the presidential press service has reported.

The head of state stressed that the death of Aleksey Navalny in a jail in the zone of the Polar Circle was a new tragedy which confirms, over and over again, that the Kremlin regime is afraid of its people, is afraid of democracy. ‘’Presently, Russia is a country where the fighters for freedom do not get to live,’’ Maia Sandu said.

The president noted that a regime which kills the people who have another opinion was the opposite of what the Moldovan authorities want. ‘’We want Moldova to be a country where the people have right to think, to speak and to live without fear, in peace and democracy. Our choice is to edify such a state and to become part of the European Union, where the human rights are observed and each life matters,’’ the head of state stressed.

President Maia Sandu also said that she was with the family of Aleksey Navalny. ‘’Our thoughts go to the family of Aleksey Navalny, to all Russians with free thinking, who know the value of the democracy and to those who courageously fight for freedom and the human rights in Russia or in any other region of the world, who had to leave because of the Kremlin regime. We should never give up fighting for freedom, for life and for the values in which we believe,’’ the head of state also said.
