Chisinau, February 17 /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Dorin Recean presented today in a weekly video summary the additional measures that have been taken to support the agricultural sector and grain producers. This year, the government will allocate 50 million lei for those who suffered from last year's drought.

The Prime Minister said that the government will continue to allocate subsidies worth about 1.7 billion lei. "We borrowed another 1.5 billion lei to give grants for animal husbandry and fruit growing, but also to invest in irrigation systems. In 2023, the Government invested more than ever in this sector, granted subsidies and aid of approximately 2 billion lei. We will continue to help grain producers and other farmers", said Recean.

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vladimir Bolea proposed a new scheme to support grain producers by partially guaranteeing their credits.

Recean and Bolea had a meeting with several agricultural producers yesterday, where it was established that the government will provide new support for grain producers affected by the crises of the last years. They will be able to contract credits worth 500 thousand lei, with a 90% guarantee from the state, to be able to start the agricultural season. At the first stage, the credit will be offered for a period of up to 18 months of initial granting and six months of payment remission with interest coverage of up to 7%, which will be paid by the Agency for Intervention and Payments in Agriculture.

Recean urged the protesting farmers not to block the access roads, because this violates the right of people to free movement, harms the activity of economic agents and endangers people's lives. Following the discussions, the group of protesting producers announced that they will stop the protest and will block the access road to the Leușeni customs until Tuesday, February 20, when another meeting will take place where this mechanism will be finalized.
