Moldovan PM says government provides immediate solution for cereals producers - Emergency Agricultural Loan

Chisinau, 20 February /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Dorin Recean today discussed with cereals producers on the platform of the Agriculture and Food Industry Ministry (MAIA), the government’s communication department has reported.  

At the discussions, the PM said:

„I presented the mechanism of support to the producers of cereals hit by the crises of the last years. The government provided an immediate solution – the Emergency Agricultural Loan, through which it will guarantee 90 per cent for 500,000 lei per one enterprise and which represents a real support, so that the farmers can start the spring agricultural season.

Thus, starting from 1 March, any farmer will be able to urgently access a loan worth up to half a million of lei on quite easy terms, which the state will guarantee. The money could be used immediately for diesel, fertilizers, spare parts and all these farmers need for the field works for the next period.  

Moldova’s government knows the problems faceted by the cereals producers and each time it came up with concrete measures of support. Fifty million lei has been already earmarked from the government’s intervention fund, in order to compensate the farmers’ losses in the wake of the drought.  

In the last year alone, we provided almost 2 billion lei for subsidies and other types of assistance in agriculture. The blocking of customs posts and roads is not a solution to solve the problems in the sector; this does not help anybody; on the contrary, this creates problems to people, carriers, as well as to the producers of cereals,’’ Prime Minister Dorin Recean said.
