Moldovan deputy PM participates in opening of workshop dedicated to statistics

Chisinau, 20 February /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov has participated in the opening of a workshop titled, Modern official statistics in contest of accession to EU. The event is organized by the National Statistics Bureau (BNS), in cooperation with EUROSTAT and the EU Delegation in Moldova, the government’s communication reported.  

In her speech, Cristina Gherasimov stressed the importance of consolidating the capacities in the statistics sector, in the perspective of the accession to EU. This is an essential step in the process of aligning with the European standards and in the preparation for the accession negotiations.   

„This workshop represents an excellent opportunity for the specialists from Moldova to take over the good practices of the national statistics institutions from the EU member states,’’ Deputy PM Cristina Gherasimov said.   

„The statistics provide an objective evaluation of the progress in meeting the EU standards and criteria; they are essential for the formulation and monitoring of policies, as well as for prioritizing the fields for development and investments. Besides, in the accession process, the statistics serves as basis for the negotiations with EU and the reporting of the progress of the country candidate,’’ the official noted.   

The deputy PM encouraged the participants to fully take advantage from this workshop. ‘’This is an essential step in our efforts to edify more transparent, more efficient and more responsible institutions,’’ Cristina Gherasimov added.
