Moldovan president has meeting with official of U.S. Department of State

Chisinau, 26 February /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today met Deputy Assistant Secretary for Eastern Europe and Policy and Regional Affairs in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs at the United States’ Department of State Christopher W. Smith, the presidential press service has reported.  

President Maia Sandu highlighted the deep bilateral partnership from the last years and thanked the U.S. Government for the constant assistance provided to Moldova and its citizens. The head of state reaffirmed the commitment for the continuation of the reforms underway for Moldova’s modernization on its way of accession to the European Union and stressed the importance of the support on behalf of the USA for these reforms. The Moldovan president also welcomed the joint efforts taken to combat the corruption and counteract the forces which try to undermine the democratic processes in Moldova.   

The officials referred also to the regional security, reconfirming their commitment to back Ukraine. The capacity of Ukraine to resist the Russian invasion is vital for the peace and stability of Moldova as well.
