Chisinau, 27 February /MOLDPRES/ - The Alexei Mateevici Theoretical Lyceum from the northern Soldanesti town has become more energy efficient with the financial support of the European Union. The event on the inauguration of the energy renovated lyceum took place today.

At the event, Deputy PM, Infrastructure and Regional Development Minister Andrei Spinu said that ‘’the schools and lyceums are the places where our children study, spend their time and create their future.’’

„A good school must, first of all, ensure good conditions for education. And here in Soldanesti, I saw the school which I want to see in each settlement of Moldova. Due to the support on behalf of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and EU, those 574 pupils come to classes in a modern, friendly and inclusive environment,’’ the official said.

Attending the event, Ambassador of the European Union to Moldova Jānis Mažeiks said that, in a world where the consumption had reached unprecedented levels, it was extremely important to take advantage of the energy efficiency technologies.

„Through this project, we wanted to integrate the smart technologies in the systems of energy management, so that the schools are able to monitor and regulate the consumption of energy for an enhanced efficiency. The schools which are efficient from the energy viewpoint provide more benefits, including through positive impact on the school well-being and performance. I means here the improved quality of the air, better acoustics and the optimum conditions of illumination,’’ the diplomat said.

The GIZ Moldova country director, Claudia Hermes, noted that she was happy with the expertise and knowledge mobilized by GIZ and provided to the Regional Development Agency and all local partners. She stressed that these had contributed to the implementation and successful finishing of this project and to ensuring the sustainability of the infrastructure. ‘’We hope that the lessons learned and the knowledge will be taken over and used in other similar projects.’’

The construction works within the project included the renovation of the roof and the insulation of the exterior walls of the buildings of the lyceum, the change of windows, rehabilitation of the interior heating system, ventilation and electricity works, setting of 15 photovoltaic panels for the production of electric energy, endowment of the institution’s kitchen with advanced technology, works of territorial arrangement through setting the pavement and making the exterior stairs.
