New member of Moldova's Superior Council of Prosecutors appointed

Chisinau, 28 February /MOLDPRES/ - The government has appointed Mihail Sorbala as member of the Superior Council of Prosecutors (CSP). He will represent the civil society.  

Mihail Sorbala was appointed for a six-year period. ‘’The candidacy of Mihail Sorbala is put forward for appointment, as a result of the decision by the Commission for the selection of a civil society’s representative to CSP on behalf of the government. Sorbala passed the evaluation of the ethic and financial integrity, carried out by the Pre-Vetting Commission. He has juridical education, is PhD in law, university lecturer. Sorbala is known in the academic environment as a professional,’’ Government’s Secretary General Artur Mija said at the cabinet meeting.      

CSP is made up of ten members. Five CSP members are elected by the General Assembly of Prosecutors from among prosecutors in office, of whom one from the Prosecutor General’s Office and four from the territorial and specialized prosecutor’s offices. Another four members are elected by contest from among the civil society’s members, as follows: one by the Moldovan president, one by the parliament, one by the government and one by the Academy of Sciences of Moldova. At the same time, the CSP president is a de jure CSP member.
