Work of biobanks to be regulated by law in Moldova

Chisinau, 29 February /MOLDPRES/ - The MPs today voted the draft law on the human biobank in the second reading.   

The document was worked out by a group of lawmakers of the parliamentary faction of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS), in cooperation with representatives of the academic environment, specialized institutions, including the Transplant Agency, the competent ministry, civil society.  

The document regulates the conditions for the processing and stocking of liquid samples: integral blood, plasma, serum, urine, sputum, spittle, cerebrospinal liquid; of solid samples: fragments of textures, cells; of cell components and subcomponents: cytoplasm, nucleuses, mitochondria; of biochemical/molecular fractions: DNA, RNA, proteins.          

Also, the descriptions of DNA, descriptions of the health condition and the genealogies of the donors of human samples are regulated.

At the same time, the document explains the rights and obligations of the donors of human bio samples, of the manager and authorized users of the biobank, of the researchers geneticists as for the human biological samples, as well as the conditions for the foundation and maintenance of the biobank.    

Through the adoption of this draft, the national legislation will be adjusted to the European Union’s one.
