Nicolae Testemitanu State Medical University of Moldova receives donation of teaching materials for promotion of children's breast-feeding

Chisinau, 6 March /MOLDPRES/ - The department of family medicine of the Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy (USMF) has received a consignment of teaching materials and equipment of simulating for the education of students from the syllabus of degree education, General medical assistance, within the module, Promotion of breast-feeding, and of the family physicians within the continuous medical education syllabi.   

At the event, the representative of the Office of the World Health Organization in Moldova (WHO Moldova), Daniela Madan, said that the ‘’donation was provided, in order to back the institutional partnership and the promotion exclusively the breast-feeding of children, as well as its advantages.’’    

The donation includes two lay figures for counseling in breast-feeding, copies of breasts for showing the processes during the pregnancy and breast-feeding, a mechanic model of breast pump and another model made of textile material.  

For his part, the head of the family medicine department, professor Ghenadie Curocichin said that these materials would be used for the creation and improvement of the practical skills of the students and medical employees in enhancing the capacities of breast-feeding for mothers. Thus, the educational materials will contribute to the promotion of the breast-feeding and will encourage mothers to opt for the breast-feeding, in order to protect children’s health.    

„On the last period, a new tendency has been registered among young mothers, who give up the process of breast-feeding of new-born children; this prompts the medical staff, family physicians, pediatricians and neonatologists to undertake actions and to create directions on the promotion of breast-feeding,’’ professor Ghenadie Curocichin stressed.      

Also, the department’s head appreciated the WHO’s support and emphasized the need of these educational materials not only for students, but also for resident physicians from the Pediatry specialty.    trie.
