CEC: Only authorized opinion polls can be published during election period

Chisinau, March 7. /MOLDPRES/- The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) informs that during election period legal research entities or public associations registered in the Republic of Moldova can conduct opinion polls and exit polls if they have obtained an authorization from the electoral authority.

According to the law, in the case of new local elections, these rules are applied only on the territory of the constituencies where they take place.

In this way, requests for authorization of surveys, exit polls and registration of interview operators can be submitted until 9 and 12 May 2024, respectively.

On election day, May 19, 2024, until 21:00, the publication of the results of any opinion polls regarding the political preferences of voters is prohibited. After 21:00, only the results of exit polls, after polls and the results of opinion polls regarding the political preferences of voters that were presented to the public until election day can be made public.

On May 19, 2024, new local elections will be held for a new composition of local councils in the localities of Cairaclia, Taraclia district, Chioselia Rusă and Cotovskoe of Gagauzia, as well as for the election of mayor in Tîrnova village, Dondușeni district, Bucovăț city, Străseni district, Sagaidac village, Cimișlia district and Hănăsenii Noi, Leova district.

Partial elections will be held in Cealîc commune, Taraclia district for a new composition of the local council, as well as for the election of the mayor in Chioselia Rusă and Cotovskoe localities of Gagauzia.
