Two student hostels for future teachers to be renovated in Moldova

Chisinau, 12 March /MOLDPRES/ - Two student hostels for future teachers will be capitally renovated within the Higher Education in Moldova Project, implemented by the Education and Research Ministry (MEC) and financed by the World Bank. About three million euros will be allocated to this end.    

The modernizations will be made at one of the hostels of the Ion Creanga State Pedagogical University and at one hostel managed by the State University of Moldova (USM).   

The World Bank’s project will support also the promotion of Moldova as destination for students from abroad. On this purpose, about one million euros will be earmarked for the translation into English of 14 higher degree syllabi, of which four new syllabi at four higher education institutions: Moldovan State University, Technical University of Moldova, Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova, Ion Creanga State Pedagogical University from Chisinau. Also, about 300 teachers will be trained to teach these syllabi in the English language.      

These actions come in the context of MEC’s discussions with World Bank’s representatives, who have been recently on a fact-collection mission in Moldova, in order to reorganize the Higher Education in Moldova Project through the redistribution of about four million euros – savings made within the project, to another two new activities.    

The Higher Education in Moldova Project backs the activities meant to modernize the infrastructure of the institutions through improving the conditions in the education blocks and the endowment with equipment of the pedagogical universities and colleges selected, as well as to ensure a better adjusting of the higher education system to the labour market’s requirements. The overall value of the project is of 35.7 million euros and is implemented on the period May 2020 - December 2025.
