Moldovan energy minister signed agreement with top European bank on financing of Balti-Suceava overhead power line

Chisinau, 13 March /MOLDPRES/ - The Energy Ministry has ensured the financing for the construction of the Overhead Power Line Balti-Suceava, after Energy Minister Victor Parlicov and Director for Moldova of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Catarina Bjorlin Hansen had signed an Agreement on loan to this end.    

Thus, the new overhead power line of 400 kV for the transportation of electric energy will be constructed between the Balti city of Moldova and the Suceava municipality of Romania. The project will also include also the reconstruction of the station of 400 kV from Balti.  

Simultaneously, a part of the financing will be meant also for the rehabilitation of certain segments of the electricity transmission networks from Moldova, by replacing the commutation and protection elements, as well as of the transformers from the energy stations.  

The project consists in the building of the overhead power line itself, with a total length of 142 km, of which 49 km on the territory of Moldova, of a line cell of 400 kV at the station from Suceava and of a system station of 400/300 kV Balti, in Moldova, nearby the Balti-based existing station. The financing of the agreement will also ensure the rehabilitation of segments of the power networks from Moldova, including the replacement of the commutation and protection elements.  

The overall value of the project is estimated at 77,000,000 euros and the agreement on loan signed will cover 40 per cent of the total sum. Another 30.8 million euros is to be contracted from the European Investment Bank. As much as 15.4 million euros is to be provided as grant by the European Union.  

The carrying out of this investment project will contribute to the integration of the network from Moldova into the European Union’s market.
