New environment minister of Moldova sworn in office

Chisinau, 14 March /MOLDPRES/ - The new environment minister, Sergiu Lazarencu, today was sworn in office in the presence of President Maia Sandu and Prime Minister Dorin Recean.   

The ceremony started with the singing of Moldova’s national anthem. President Maia Sandu wished the new minister success and set the principal priorities.    

„The environment sector is quite dear to me or my expectation is for us to take consistent efforts for this field to be fulfilled. The management of the waste and residual waters, the diminution of the dramatic effects of the climate changes are the other sectors where firm actions are demanded. Also, the European integration implies the adjusting of the legislation on environment as well. There is a lot of work to do and we want to see as many as possible good results for the citizens,’’ the head of state said.

At the same time, Maia Sandu thanked the former environment minister, Iordanca-Rodica Iordanov, for the work carried out.   

An MP of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS), Sergiu Lazarencu, was appointed as environment minister. Lazarencu has higher education in economics and was former deputy mayor of the Stauceni commune, Chisinau municipality. He is 38 years old. Since 2021, Lazarencu has been lawmaker and as of March 2023 – secretary of the commission for economy, budget and finances.
