PHOTO Moldova's Customs Service receives IT equipment, services for efficient management of flow of goods, people

Chisinau, 14 March /MOLDPRES/ - The Customs Service today received IT equipment and services on behalf of the European Union for the efficient management of the flow of goods and people.  

Attending the event were Ambassador of the European Union to Moldova Jānis Mažeiks, Head of the mission of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Moldova Lars Johan Lönnback and Head of the Customs Service Igor Talmazan.      

„We offer thanks to our strategic partners and appreciate much the assistance provided for the modernization of the Customs Service. The donation is provided within two foreign assistance projects financed by the European Union. It will enhance the consolidation of the capacities of management of the migration flow, the digitalization and simplification of the customs procedures, the professional development of the customs employees, the counteraction of the illicit cross-border traffic and the securing of the borders,’’ Igor Talmazan said.    

For his part, Jānis Mažeiks said that ‘’the donation, worth 1.3 million euros, shows the long-lasting cooperation between EU and Moldova for the support of the joint control with Ukraine.’’   

„We are firmly sure that this support will strengthen the IT systems, as well as the capacities of mobility and verification of the Customs Service. The donation will significantly enhance the availability of the instruments of analysis of risks and will open new ways for subsequent development initiatives,’’ Head of the IOM Mission in Moldova Lars Johan Lönnback said.    

The equipment and services donated provide for the modernization of the central information system of the Customs Service. Also, video supervision cameras and the related software were set, in order to ensure the functionality of the television with closed circuit and the automatic recognition of the matriculation plates in the new information system –Border.   

Also, with the EU’s financial support, the Customs Service was endowed with ten touring cars, in order to ensure a quick and mobile reaction in emergency situations. At the same time, supervision cameras, servers and IT equipment, exterior modular LED displays were provided for the recently renovated Sculeni border crossing point.  

The donation was provided within two-EU-financed projects: EU-IOM Support of protection, transit, voluntary and informed return and reintegration of citizens from the Eastern Partnership and of the nationals of the third countries hit by the conflict from Ukraine and EU 4 Border Security, both implemented by the International Organization for Migration in Moldova.
