Moldovan MP Marina Tauber stripped off parliamentary immunity

Chisinau, 14 March /MOLDPRES/ - An independent lawmaker, Marina Tauber, has been stripped off parliamentary immunity. The parliament today approved a draft decision to this effect, at a request by acting Prosecutor General Ion Munteanu.   

The acting Prosecutor General said that Marina Tauber was prosecuted in a file on ‘’interference with the justice administration.’’ The prosecution on this case started in May 2023 and now the file is to be sent to court, for which the consent of the parliament is needed.     

„Marina Tauber is charged with interference with the administration of justice, in order to hinder the investigation of the cause which regarded Ilan Shor. During the court session, the MP conveyed threatening messages to magistrates. At the same time, she threatened with the blocking of the session. Marina Tauber made offences and intimidations against judges. Thus, the magistrates were put in impossibility to continue the session. There is enough and conclusive evidence to examine the cause in court. For this, it is necessary to lift the parliamentary immunity of MP Marina Tauber,’’ Ion Munteanu said.     

Marina Tauber was present at the parliament meeting. She turned down the charges, noting that ‘’through the things set forth, she expressed her opinion and demanded a fair trial.’’   

Lawmaker Marina Tauber is stripped off parliamentary immunity for the ninth time, being prosecuted on more files. The present decision enters into force on the date of its adoption.  

Under the parliament’s Regulation, if the MP committed an offence or contravention, the Prosecutor General can ask the parliament to lift his/her immunity, in order to carry our procedural measures of detaining, search, arresting or sending to court.
