Chisinau, 16 March /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu has paid a working visit to the southern Cahul district, where he discussed with mayors, local councilors and entrepreneurs from southern Moldova, the parliament’s communication and public relations department reported.

The discussions with the mayors from the region were focused on the European projects carried out in villages and cities from the region, as well as on the current problems. In the last years, due to the European Village Programme, roads and street illumination were rehabilitated, schools and kindergartens were modernized and households were supplied with water and sewerage. ‘’The improvement of the living conditions for the residents of all villages and cities continues to be our priority, just as it is also the priority of mayors. We must be a united and consolidated team, in order to enhance the well-being in settlements together. Step by step, we will bring the European Union in each settlement,’’ the parliament speaker said at the meeting with mayors and local councilors. Among the problems from the region signaled, there is the lack of irrigation systems, the low degree of afforestation of the villages from the Prut river meadow, the rehabilitation of the R34 road, etc.

The discussions with entrepreneurs from south Moldova who developed businesses with the European Union’s support referred to the perspectives opened by the European integration for the country’s economy and to the way of improving the conditions for the business environment. The parliament speaker encouraged the entrepreneurs to continue accessing European funds, as well as to apply for national programmes. ‘’The development of the economy, through backing the small- and medium-sized businesses, is another priority of the country. An economy integrated into the single European market means more well-paid jobs, more contributions to the country’s budget and more investments for improving the people’s living conditions,’’ Igor Grosu said.

The parliament speaker visited the Grigore Racovita Gymnasium from the Andrusul de Sus village, his native settlement. The gymnasium’s sports hall was repaired and a football mini-stadium, worth 2 million lei, enjoyed by the entire village, was constructed through the European Village Programme. ‘’My fellow villagers are ever more active and more involved in the development of the settlement. Mayor Ina Codreanu told me about the project she had registered in the call European Village, for the construction of an artesian well and an aqueduct which are to cover the entire need of water of the local residents, especially in the summer months,’’ the parliament speaker said.

In the end of the visit to Cahul, the parliament speaker attended the launch of a book titled, Tania Ionașcu, bunica mea. O biografie basarabeană (Tania Ionascu, my grandmother. A Bessarabian biography) by a well-known Romanian film director, Cristian Mungiu.
