Bilateral partnership of cooperation between Moldova and North Carolina state renewed

Chisinau, 19 March /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Dorin Recean and North Carolina State Secretary Elaine F. Marshall have signed the Memorandum of principles and procedures on the intention to consolidate the good relations.  The document represents a revised and completed version, valid for the next five years, which allow the development, in continuation, of the cooperation between the two partners, the government’s communication department has reported.   

PM Dorin Recean said, during those 25 years of partnership, the sides had carried out and continue to carry out multiple projects in the education sector, academic and university exchanges, pharmaceutics, stomatology, first medical assistance. Also, access was got to the digital libraries from North Carolina and the cooperation relations with the National Guard were developed.  

„Due to the programme on partnership with the National Guard of North Carolina, our country benefited from USA’s assistance in reforming the defence sector, training Moldovan servicemen in specialized education institutions from the United States, endowment with equipment and exchange of experience. The other channel of the partnership with North Carolina is the humanitarian cooperation.’’ the prime minister said.     

Among the charity projects implemented in Moldova, there is the renovation and the endowment of more education institutions, hospitals and orphanages, education scholarships provided to young people and socially vulnerable families, as well as the providing of medical assistance, preponderantly stomatological one, to children with special needs.   

During official meetings at the government’s building, Prime Minister Dorin Recean Secretary of State Elaine F. Marshall also discussed the bilateral cooperation with the USA, focused on democracy and good governance, fighting corruption, energy security and resilience, economic development and growth, cooperation in the defence sector and cyber security, digital transition and climate changes. Also, State Secretary Elaine F. Marshall had a meeting with Head of State Chancellery Artur Mija.     

The bilateral partnership Moldova – North Carolina, USA, was officialized on 22 April 1999, based on an understanding to consolidate the efforts of the both countries’ governments, aimed at facilitating the mutually advantageous end efficient cooperation. According to the provisions of the Memorandum, it can be formally periodically renewed. Following the expiration of the initial term, the Partnership was renewed in 2004, 2010, 2015 and 2019.
