Chisinau, 21 March /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs Minister Mihai Popsoi has had a meeting NATO’s Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoana at the Headquarters of the Alliance, on the sidelines of his working visit to Brussels. The visit to the Headquarters of the North-Atlantic Alliance coincides with the 30th anniversary of Moldova’s accession to NATO’s Partnership for Peace.

At the meeting, the officials discussed the implementation of the goals of the Moldova-NATO Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP), consolidation of Moldova’s defence capacities and the cooperation in combating the new threats to Moldova’s security.

Moldova benefited from the cooperation with the NATO, both in the context of the increase in the capacities in the military sector and in combating the hybrid, cyber threats and crises’ management. At the same time, Moldova contributed to the strengthening of the security in Europe through the participation in the KFOR peacekeeping mission from Kosovo. This fact proves that Moldova is not only a consumer of security, but also contributes to the regional security.

„I reiterated the interest in the expertise and assistance of the organization for the modernization of the security and defence sector of Moldova. Despite all challenges, we will continue our road of advancement on the way of accession to EU and strengthening of the cooperation with the NATO.

We referred to the latest developments which regard the regional security and the risks triggered by Russia’s war against Ukraine. Moldova will continue supporting Ukraine in these complicated moments.

The NATO deputy secretary general reconfirmed the Alliance’s commitment for the partnership with Moldova, with the observance of the sovereignty, territorial integrity and the status of neutrality of the country. Mircea Geoana reiterated the support for Moldova’s European integration,’’ Deputy PM Mihai Popsoi added.
