Exhibition of photos inaugurated at Moldovan parliament's headquarters on World Down Syndrome Day

Chisinau, 21 March /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu has conveyed a message on the inclusion of the people sick with the Down syndrome, on the World Down Syndrome Day. At the same time, a group of parents and teachers of children hit by the Down syndrome attended the parliament’s plenary meeting.    

„Thank you that you remind us that the inclusion starts with us and each of us can contribute to a more inclusive society. Our duty is to accept and turn to good account the diversity, to provide equal opportunities. Each of us needs the love of the people around, in order to grow, develop and be happy,’’ Igor Grosu said.  

Also today, the parliament hosts an exhibition of photos titled, We are different, but alike. The exhibition includes 31 photographs from the Sunshine Public Association of Chisinau and well-known people from Moldova. The event represented an occasion of socialization and interaction between the MPs and the parents present in parliament. 

Starting from today, the lawmakers joined the campaign of awareness for the inclusion and acceptance of the people hit by the Down syndrome in the society. The MPs wore yellow and blue ribbons and socks of different colours.  

The World Down Syndrome Day is annually marked on 21 March. The Down syndrome is a genetic chromosomal disease which hits about one out 1,000 children. The events organized by the parliament have the goal of enhancing the solidarity with the people sick with the Down syndrome, promoting their inclusion and enhancing the degree of their social interaction.
