PHOTO Nicolae Testemitanu Medical University of Moldova marks 25th anniversary of partnership between Moldova and North Carolina state

Chisinau, 21 March /MOLDPRES/ - The Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy (USMF) today organized an event dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Bilateral Cooperation Partnership between Moldova and the U.S. North Carolina state.  

Attending the ceremony were North Carolina Secretary of State Elaine F. Marshall, Ambassador of the United States to Moldova Kent D. Logsdon and USMF Rector Emil Ceban.  

The agenda included a panel of discussions with the participation of the American officials. At the event, Emil Ceban unveiled the results of the bilateral partnership during those 25 years of cooperation.   

„The bilateral partnership was launched on 22 April 1999. It provides for academic exchange and facilitation of the bilateral relations. The partnership is a success. Important projects have been carried out due to it. We have a nice cooperation with the universities from North Carolina, with the medical libraries and diverse funds. During 25 years, important projects were implemented in the fields of stomatology, pharmacy, librarianship and backing the academic mobility between teachers and students. At the same time, we benefited from technical assistance, received medical instruments, consumables and donations of books. We want to strengthen, in continuation, the bilateral relations, to develop the partnership and new directions of cooperation,’’ Emil Ceban said.       

For her part, North Carolina Secretary of State Elaine F. Marshall appreciated the partnership with the Nicolae Testemitanu USMF. ‘’I am particularly pleased to come back here. We have a nice connection with Moldova and we want to consolidate the partnership with Nicolae Testemitanu USMF. This is a living partnership, which involves dedicated specialists,’’ the official said.  

At the same time, U.S. Ambassador to Moldova, Kent D. Logsdon said that the USA supported the development of bilateral programmes. ‘’The Nicolae Testemitanu USMF has a considerable role in the Moldovan health system; therefore, we are set to develop, in continuation, the programmes, to provide technical assistance and donations. We are happy that, for many years already, we have had a nice cooperation and we accomplished important things together,’’ the ambassador said.  

At the event, an exhibition of publications was inaugurated, donated to the Scientific Medical Library by the North Carolina state, a gallery of photos was displayed and a documentary titled, People to People, was screened. The film shows the history of the university’s programmes on cooperation in the fields of stomatology, pharmacy, medical assistance and the inter-library partnership, as well as the most important events which took place during one quarter of a century.
