Three thousand meters will be set at the first stage.

The works of setting smart meters are presently carried out in the Chisinau city and in six settlements from the capital’s suburbs. In its distribution area, the distribution operator in 2024 will set 20,000 smart meters in more than 100 settlements from southern Moldova, selected according to the technical, economic and sociological criteria of study.

”With the enforcement of the differentiated tariffs, these meters will ensure the record of the electric energy consumed in differentiated way according to time intervals. For the operators of the electric energy distribution system, these meters provide technical information, which will allow a better monitoring of energy flows, identification of commercial losses, improvement of the quality of the distribution services provided, cutting of operational costs with impact on the electric energy distribution tariffs,’’ Energy Minister Victor Parlicov said.

The pilot project was launched by the Energy Ministry in 2023 and provides for the setting of 35,000 smart meters for the household and non-household consumers from all over Moldova.
