Energocom company of Moldova urges consumers to reduce electricity use during peak hours
The Energocom stock company is urging consumers of Moldova to use electricity rationally and to reduce, as much as possible, their consumption between 18:00 and 23:00, in the context of the state of alert declared in Romania and the pressures recorded on regional energy markets.
The company notes that the Romanian authorities have declared a state of alert for a period of 30 days, against the backdrop of reduced electricity production caused by the low flow of the Danube. Under these conditions, Romania’s import needs may increase, which can generate price fluctuations on regional electricity markets.
According to Energocom, the current electricity needs of Moldova’s consumers are fully covered by the company. For August 1, the company purchased a total volume of 9,523 MWh of electricity.
As much as 33.05 per cent of the total amount comes from eligible local renewable sources, 51.68 per cent - from bilateral import contracts, 13.85 per cent - from the Romanian Day-Ahead Market, via OPCOM and BRM (Romanian Commodity Exchange) and 1.42 per cent is supplied by combined heat and power plants (CHPs).
The company warns that, during peak consumption hours, it may be necessary to make additional purchases on regional markets, where electricity is usually more expensive. In the context, responsible use of electricity can help reduce procurement costs and maintain the balance of the national power system.
Energocom recommends that the population avoid, where possible, using high-consumption household appliances between 18:00 and 23:00 and schedule the operation of washing machines, dryers, electric boilers and other equipment outside peak hours. The company stresses that responsible consumption helps reduce the pressure on the power system and lower electricity procurement costs.
