Moldelectrica gets required documents for design of 400 kV Bălți–Suceava power line

State-owned enterprise Moldelectrica has obtained the urban planning certificate and the technical conditions required to prepare the design documentation for the Bălți–Suceava 400 kV overhead power line. The project is part of the second phase of the interconnection of the electricity grids of the Republic of Moldova and Romania.

According to Moldelectrica, the line will have an estimated length of approximately 48 kilometres on the territory of the Republic of Moldova and will cross 12 rural localities in the districts of Glodeni, Fălești, Bălți and Rîșcani.

“Obtaining these documents allows for the continued technical and administrative preparation of the investment and the launch of the development of engineering solutions for the future energy infrastructure. During the design stage, the final route of the line, the location of the pylons, foundation solutions, conductor types and insulation components will be established. Protection measures, safe operating conditions and the distances from existing land plots and infrastructure will also be analysed,” the enterprise explains.

The construction of the Bălți–Suceava line is intended to strengthen electricity transmission capacity, develop cross-border energy exchanges and increase the operational security of the National Power System. The project will also contribute to the integration of the Republic of Moldova’s power system into European energy infrastructure, the cited source notes.

The project Interconnection of the Electricity Grids of the Republic of Moldova and Romania, Phase II is being implemented by the Ministry of Energy through the state-owned enterprise Moldelectrica, with financial support from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the European Investment Bank and the European Union’s Neighbourhood Investment Platform.
