Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister discusses road transport liberalization with Azerbaijan in Baku

Moldovan delegation, headed by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development (MIDR) Vladimir Bolea had a meeting with Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ali Asadov. They approached topical issues on the Moldovan-Azerbaijani agenda, particularly those related to economic, commercial and investment cooperation, as well as the development of transport cooperation, exploring opportunities for green energy export and developing agricultural cooperation.

The officials discussed strengthening Moldovan-Azerbaijani relations at the level of intergovernmental commissions to harness collaboration opportunities in priority areas from both states. They pointed out the importance of the VIth meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Republic of Moldova, due in Baku today.

Vladimir Bolea said that Moldova is interested in organizing the meeting of the Moldovan-Azerbaijani Joint Commission on road transport and initiating discussions on the liberalization of road freight transport between our country and Azerbaijan. The Deputy Prime Minister expressed interest in organizing bilateral trade fairs and exhibitions in the agri-food sector and intensifying the export of agri-food products to Azerbaijan. Other issues included the energy, labor and social protection, and education sectors.

Agricultural cooperation was also discussed during a meeting between the Moldovan delegation and Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Azerbaijan Majnun Mammadov. The officials highlighted the enormous growth potential in the sector, focusing on cooperation in agricultural product processing, experience exchange and applying modern technologies. They also talked about the development of 'smart cities' and 'smart villages' in Azerbaijan's recently liberated territories. Mammadov expressed willingness to cooperate with the Republic of Moldova in applying modern technologies and exchanging best practices.

During talks at the Energy Ministry with SOCAR company president Rovshan Najaf, ways to enhance collaboration to support the development of Moldova's energy infrastructure and security were addressed. They emphasized opportunities for cooperation in the trade of crude oil, natural gas and petroleum products, as well as developing renewable energy and decarbonization projects. They also discussed opportunities to expand SOCAR's investments in Moldova, including in the energy sector.

On 9-11 April, Bolea is leading the Moldovan delegation on a working visit to Baku, Republic of Azerbaijan. The Moldovan delegation is participating today, April 11, in the VIth edition of the Moldovan-Azerbaijani Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation meeting, chaired by Bolea, president of the Commission on behalf of Moldova, and Minister of Agriculture Majnun Mammadov, president of the Commission on behalf of Azerbaijan. During the visit, our country's delegation has scheduled meetings with high-ranking officials in Baku.
