Moldovan PM says government, farmers to work together on solutions to help farmers grow businesses

The problems faced by farmers and the solutions to overcome them were examined by Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu at a today’s meeting with a group of farmers, representatives of the National Farmers’ Federation of Moldova and of the Women for Resilient Agriculture Association.

The PM emphasized that the best decisions can be made when the sides involved sit at the table for dialogue and examine the present opportunities.

“It is a challenging period for agriculture. That is why, I believe that the best decisions are made when we sit at the same table and speak openly. We discussed the measures currently under public consultation, the need for clearer and simpler rules for the people in this sector, investments and how we can create conditions for agriculture to become more productive and more competitive,” the official said.

Alexandru Munteanu noted that farmers needed predictability, fair rules and constant dialogue with the authorities and that this was also the government’s commitment.

“I made sure once again that farmers are not asking for the impossible. They want predictability, fair rules and constant dialogue with the authorities. This is our commitment as well. I have travelled to many countries and had the chance to taste products from all over the world. Each time I come back home, I realize that the fruits and vegetables grown in Moldova have a special, authentic taste. We have hardworking people and quality products. Our role is to create the conditions for this work to be properly rewarded,” the prime minister said.

At the same time, the official informed that the discussions would continue and the parties involved would work together on solutions to help farmers develop their businesses.
