Moldovan PM, U.S. Chargé d’Affaires discuss strengthening of Moldovan–American partnership
Prime Minister Vasile Tofan today had a meeting with Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the United States in Moldova Nick Pietrowicz. The discussions focused on deepening bilateral relations, joint development projects and strengthening economic cooperation.
The PM thanked the United States for the 130-million-dollar investment allocated for the construction of the Straseni-Gutinas overhead power transmission line. The project is fully financed through a grant provided by the U.S. Government and envisages the construction of a 400 kV high-voltage line, with a total length of approximately 190 kilometers, about 70 kilometers of which will be on the territory of Moldova. The Straseni–Gutinas line will be the third high-voltage interconnection between Moldova and Romania.
“This investment is a very concrete example of the results produced by our partnership with the United States. A secure energy infrastructure that is connected to the European market is essential not only for the country’s security, but also for industrial development and for attracting investors,” said Prime Minister Vasile Tofan.
For his part, Chargé d’Affaires Nick Pietrowicz praised the very good level of bilateral relations and reaffirmed the United States’ support for Moldova. The U.S. official highlighted the shared values underpinning the partnership between the two countries. During the meeting, the strong bipartisan support that Moldova enjoys in the U.S. Congress was noted as well.
The officials emphasized the symbolic significance of the year 2026, when the United States marks 250 years since the proclamation of independence, and the Moldova – 35 years of independence. These anniversaries represent an opportunity to reaffirm the friendship between the two states and to set new goals for the development of the Moldovan–American partnership.
Prime Minister Vasile Tofan reiterated that Moldova is a reliable partner of the United States, committed to ensuring stability, European integration and the development of a modern, competitive economy that is open to investment.
