The local public administration reform was consulted with citizens and mayors from another nine districts during February 16-20. Government representatives visited Edinet, Donduseni, Rascani, Glodeni, Anenii Noi, Causeni, Stefan Voda, Hancesti and Ialoveni, where they listened to the opinions of residents and their expectations from reform of the local public administration (APL).

Last week, the reform was consulted in seven districts: Drochia, Soroca, Nisporeni, Floresti, Sangerei, Cantemir and Cahul. During the public consultations, representatives of the State Chancellery spoke about how important it is for everyone to be involved in developing the reform concept, so that the transformation of local public administration meets people’s needs.

It was emphasized that the reform aims to provide local administrations with the necessary tools to solve community problems, and the main goal is to build strong mayoralties for developed communities. Services must be provided at the local level, while districts should coordinate the activities of towns and villages and serve as regional platforms for planning, joint procurement and major projects with EU’s assistance.

As part of the reform, the government encourages voluntary amalgamation, and for this purpose, procedures will be simplified, more financial resources will be allocated and guidance will be provided by the State Chancellery.

Consultations on the reform vision will continue in other districts of Moldova till late February. The proposals collected are being analyzed and integrated into the reform concept, which is to be presented and broadly consulted starting next March. Suggestions regarding the reform can be sent to the email address primariiputernice@gov.md.
