Romania will continue to support Moldova, both bilaterally and in advancing its European path. The commitment was reconfirmed at a meeting between Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu and his Romanian counterpart, Ilie Bolojan.

“From the bridges that connect the banks of the Prut, the energy grids that bring light into homes, to the schools and theatres where we speak the same language, our relation is becoming stronger than ever,” said Prime Minister Munteanu.

The Moldovan PM thanked the Romanian side for the prompt assistance offered to  Moldova in managing the pollution crisis on the Dniester River, recently caused by Russian Federation’s attacks in Ukraine. Teams from Romania intervened from the very first day, helping to install absorbent barriers and providing the necessary materials to limit the effects of the pollution.

Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu also appreciated the support provided by Romania in the context of the energy crisis, likewise generated by Russian attacks on the Vulcanesti–Isaccea line. Until the line is restored, the supply of Moldova’s consumers has been ensured, including through alternative routes, among which the four 110 kV interconnection lines with Romania.

The two sides reviewed the status of implementation of joint interconnection projects, the improvement of border transit conditions for citizens and goods, as well as strategic cooperation in the fields of energy and transport infrastructure, with a focus on the takeover of the Giurgiulesti Port by the Port of Constanta and the construction of the A8 Motorway, Pascani–Iasi–Ungheni.

Another topic discussed by the two counterparts concerned Moldova’s European agenda. “Romania supports the European path of Moldova and welcomes the launch of technical negotiations with the European Union. We will further support this process at the political level as well. At the same time, Romanian experts are working with the Moldovan administration to align legislation and practices with European standards,” said Prime Minister Bolojan.
