Veterinary, phytosanitary experts from both banks of Dniester hold working meeting

A meeting of experts from both banks of the Dniester River in the veterinary and phytosanitary field was held by videoconference today.

The meeting was convened at an initiative of Chisinau, after an 18‑month break.

The participants in the event addressed topics on the compliance by citizens and economic agents from the Transnistrian region within the area of competence with the requirements of the national regulatory framework in force and the European Union standards.

Experts from Chisinau presented the procedures that must be followed for the import of fertilizers and pesticides into the territory of Moldova, in the context of aligning national legislation and standards with European Union rules, emphasizing the obligation to include these products in the Register of Authorization of Plant Protection Products and Fertilizers. At the same time, the  Moldovan experts highlighted the need for the uniform application of standards in the field by all economic agents involved in the production, import and export of products of animal and plant origin.

The discussions also focused on the implementation of control and eradication measures for officially notifiable animal diseases, as well as ensuring access to animal health laboratories of Moldova for diagnostics and official confirmation in the national reference laboratory, in accordance with the requirements of the World Organization for Animal Health.

The need to identify and register animals in the Automated Information System, State Register of Animals, was also addressed, a measure that will allow animal owners of the Transnistrian region to benefit from the present economic opportunities. In the context, the participants in the meeting discussed ensuring the movement of live animals and products of animal origin, in accordance with sanitary and veterinary requirements, in order to maintain farmers’ and economic agents’ access to national and international markets.

The experts from the two banks of Dniester also emphasized the importance of ensuring unhindered access for inspectors of the National Food Safety Agency to authorized economic agents in the Transnistrian region, for the purpose of carrying out qualified inspections as an essential element for guaranteeing access to domestic and foreign markets.

The experts agreed to continue a constructive and pragmatic dialogue, in order to identify effective solutions to existing problems, in line with the national and European standards in force, for the benefit of citizens on both banks of the Dniester River.
