Prime Minister at EU Enlargement Forum: Moldova consciously chooses democracy, peace, belonging to great European family day by day
The Republic of Moldova is ready to contribute to a stronger and more united European Union, and EU enlargement is a strategic investment in Europe's stability, security, and prosperity. Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu made the statement at the European Union Enlargement Forum, organized for the first time in Brussels by Commissioner Marta Kos. The event, By Expanding the EU, We Ensure Our Future, brought together leaders of EU institutions, representatives of member states and candidate countries, civil society representatives, entrepreneurs and public policy experts.
In his speech, the prime minister emphasized that the European Union builds the future through the power of a rules-based democratic model: "For the people of the Republic of Moldova, who have been subjected to constant external interference, the future is about choice. We do not want a future imposed on us by force or blackmail. The Republic of Moldova consciously chooses democracy, peace and belonging to the great European family day by day."
The prime minister highlighted that Moldova's partnership with the EU has strengthened our country's energy resilience, supported citizens in difficult times, consolidated border security, and accelerated reform processes. Integration into the EU roaming area, accession to the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA), and expanded access for Moldovan products to the European market are just a few of the tangible benefits obtained. Moreover, through the Growth Plan, the government is working on projects that will bring direct benefits to both people and the business environment.
Munteanu emphasized that Moldova's voice is crucial in the collective effort to build a more resilient Europe, noting that our country assumes the role of a responsible partner, focused on strengthening peace and stability on the continent.
"We are not only beneficiaries of European solidarity, but also contributors to European security. We have withstood hybrid threats, disinformation, and energy blackmail. We have important lessons to share and we know that only together can we build a stronger and more united Europe," the Prime Minister said.
