Moldovan PM has meeting with group of farmers at government
Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu today had a meeting at the government with a group of agricultural producers, representatives of the National Farmers’ Federation of Moldova and of the Women for Resilient Agriculture Association. The sides discussed more current problems faced by farmers and the solutions that can be implemented together. The discussions were also attended by Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Ludmila Catlabuga, Finance Minister Andrian Gavrilita, as well as representatives of other public authorities.
Prime Minister Munteanu underlined that the government was open to constructive dialogue and that cooperation between the authorities and producers was essential for creating better working conditions and supporting the local economy. “It is a difficult period for agriculture. That is why, I believe that the best decisions are made when we sit at the same table and speak openly,” said the PM.
The participants in the meeting discussed risk management in agriculture, increasing productivity, improving access to financing on favorable terms, as well as ensuring the necessary workforce, especially for seasonal work.
They also examined certain aspects regarding the Day Laborers Law, the fiscal policy currently under public consultation, strengthening reporting processes in agriculture and the digitalization of data, as well as the efficient use of state-owned assets for the development of tourism and the promotion of local products.
“I have traveled to many countries and had the opportunity to taste products from all regions of the world. Each time I return home, I realize that the fruits and vegetables grown in Moldova have a special, authentic taste. We have hard-working people and quality products. Our role is to create the conditions for this work to be rewarded accordingly,” said Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu.
Among the subjects raised by the farmers were the adjustment of the Insolvency Law and the Enforcement Code, some provisions of which are currently burdensome for agricultural producers. Representatives of the Justice Ministry said that amendments to this effect were currently under public consultation.
All problems raised by the farmers will be examined at ministries and other responsible authorities, in order to find solutions. Prime Minister Munteanu assured that discussions in this format would continue, so that farmers’ activities are facilitated through joint efforts and constructive dialogue. “I made sure once again that farmers are not asking for impossible things. They want predictability, fair rules and constant dialogue with the authorities. This is also our commitment. We will continue these discussions and work together on solutions that will help farmers develop their businesses,” concluded Prime Minister Munteanu.
