Moldovan PM meets local authorities of central district

The priorities of regional development, projects implemented thanks to government’s investments, as well as the challenges faced by citizens in the localities were discussed at a meeting between Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu and the mayors and deconcentrated services from the central Hancesti district.

The PM referred to the measures taken by the authorities in the context of unfavorable weather conditions. State institutions are involved in clearing roads, ensuring traffic and carrying out special interventions when necessary. In schools of Hancesti, classes are held with physical attendance, and in the coming days the way studies will be conducted will be established, depending on how the weather situation develops.

“Both in the energy sector and in roads’ administration, all institutions are operating in an emergency regime, so that the bad weather does not negatively affect citizens’ lives,” the prime minister emphasized.

Another topic discussed concerned the projects and investments carried out in recent years in Hancesti district. Around 220 million lei has been allocated by the government for the 57 projects implemented through the European Village Programme. Efforts have focused on modernizing the district hospital, repairing roads, water and sewerage infrastructure, enhancing energy efficiency and renovating kindergartens, schools, parks and street lighting.

The PM noted that, in order to bring more projects to Moldova’s settlements the country and to build strong mayoralties, the government was preparing the concept for reforming local public administration, while encouraging the process of voluntary amalgamation: “We see the development of the Hancesti district as a joint long-term effort, and the voluntary amalgamation of localities stays an important instrument for strengthening administrative capacity and accelerating local investments, which should lead to better services for citizens.”
