Prime Minister Vasile Tofan today attended the opening ceremony of the 25th edition of National Wine Day, alongside Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, European Commissioner for Economy and Productivity Valdis Dombrovskis, Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Eugeniu Osmochescu, Director of the National Office for Vine and Wine Stefan Iamandi, representatives of the wine sector and visitors who came to celebrate the Moldovan Wine.

At the opening of the event, Prime Minister Vasile Tofan emphasized that wine and vineyards are part of Moldova’s identity, and the achievements of the wine sector had transformed Moldovan wine into a calling card for the country. “We are small in size, but we have an important presence in the world of wine and this is a source of pride for us,” the PM stressed.

Vasile Tofan paid tribute to the work of people in the sector, noting that, based on his own experience in winemaking, he knows the effort behind every bottle of wine produced in Moldova.

“Let us respect and take pride in the work of winemakers. They are our ambassadors in the world and our calling card. The government will continue to support them, invest in the development of the sector, contribute to opening new markets and remove tariff and non-tariff barriers, so that our wines can reach as many consumers around the world as possible,” the prime minister said.

Attending the opening ceremony, European Commissioner for Economy and Productivity Valdis Dombrovskis highlighted both the cultural value of Moldovan wine and the sector’s contribution to the country’s economic development.

“In Moldova, wine is part of the country’s identity. It reflects centuries of expertise, hard work and passion. But Moldovan wine is also a story of the future—it creates jobs, supports rural communities, attracts tourists and brings Moldova closer to European and international markets,” Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis noted.

One of the special moments of the anniversary edition was the establishment of a Guinness World Records record through the formation of a human representation of a vine—a symbol of the connection between people, the land and the winemaking tradition of Moldova.

The National Wine Day is organized by the National Office for Vine and Wine. The 25th edition of the event takes place on October 3–4 and brings together 114 wineries the largest number of producers present at this celebration.

The schedule includes tastings and meetings with winemakers, the Wine School, guided tours led by sommeliers, cultural activities and experiences dedicated to promoting wine culture and responsible consumption. Visitors can continue the experience at wineries across the country through events and tourist routes organized this weekend.

According to data for the first seven months of 2026, exports of wine products exceeded 116 million dollars. Moldovan wines reached 65 destinations, while 61 per cent of the total value of exports went to the European Union market.
