Moldovan deputy speaker: Romania remains our closest ally

On 19 November, members of the Foreign Policy Committee of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova met with President of the Romanian Senate Mircea Abrudean in Bucharest. The officials discussed advancing the European integration process as the Republic of Moldova fulfills its commitments, the support offered by Romania in the context of our country's European integration agenda, as well as the support provided by the European Union for the Republic of Moldova.

The parliamentary delegation is headed by deputy speaker Doina Gherman, head of the Foreign Policy Committee. During the meeting, she emphasized that Romania is the country's closest ally both at the national level and within European structures.

"Together with colleagues from the Foreign Policy Committee in the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, we had a meeting in Bucharest with the President of the Romanian Senate, Mircea Abrudean. European integration is Moldova's natural path, confirmed by citizens and endorsed by the Parliament's accession to the EU. Romania remains our closest ally, present and active both through its national institutions and within European structures. Romania's experience in the accession process is an important advantage for Moldova in the upcoming stages, including in preparing the negotiations we want to open by the end of the year. We value our friendship, support, and strategic partnership with Romania," stated Doina Gherman.

Today, the Foreign Policy Committees from the Parliaments of Chișinău and Bucharest also signed a joint statement regarding the support for starting the negotiation process regarding Moldova's accession to the European Union. The document was signed after the meeting of the two committees, held in Bucharest.

The delegation also includes members of the Foreign Policy Committee: Adrian Băluțel, Ion Groza, Mihail Druță, as well as head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Romania Veronica Roșca.

In Bucharest, the delegation will also have a meeting with the presidential adviser on European affairs, Valentin Naumescu. The deputies will also visit the chapel of Saint Sophia Church in Bucharest to pay their last respects to Ilie Ilașcu.
