Moldovan foreign affairs minister has meeting with Ukrainian counterpart
The security of Moldova is inextricably linked to the one of Ukraine and a just and lasting peace is the essential condition for the stability of the entire region. Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs Minister Mihai Popsoi has made statements to this effect at a meeting in Kyiv with his Ukrainian counterpart, Andrii Sybiha.
The two officials discussed the Moldovan-Ukrainian cooperation, recent developments on the European integration agenda and priorities in the process of accession to the European Union. The ministers welcomed the opening of negotiations for Cluster 1 “Fundamental values” and Cluster 6 “External relations” and underlined the importance of maintaining the pace of reforms, in order to open the remaining groups of negotiation chapters.
A central topic of the talks was the regional security situation, in the context of the Russian Federation’s war of aggression against Ukraine. Mihai Popsoi reconfirmed Moldova’s full support for Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity and stressed that the security of the two states is closely interconnected.
“In these difficult times, solidarity between our countries is more important than ever. Moldova and Ukraine have proven that they can move forward together, with determination, on the path of European integration. We will continue to coordinate our efforts, in order to seize this historic opportunity and to bring our states closer to the common goal – accession to the European Union,” said Mihai Popsoi.
For his part, Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Andrii Sybiha, praised the cooperation between the two states in promoting common interests and priorities, both bilaterally and at the European level.
“I am convinced that, through sustained efforts, we will continue to strengthen the partnership between Ukraine and Moldova and to advance together on the path toward EU accession,” said the Ukrainian foreign minister.
Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs Minister Mihai Popsoi today also had a meeting with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, during which they discussed regional security, the common European path of the two states, as well as the management of the hydrological situation in the Dniester River basin.
During his visit to Kyiv, Mihai Popsoi also took part in the Annual Meeting of the Heads of Ukraine’s Diplomatic Missions, where he reaffirmed Moldova’s support for Ukraine and for the shared European course of the two countries.
