Moldovan foreign affairs minister has talks with Lithuanian MPs: support for European path, security cooperation on agenda
Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs Minister Mihai Popsoi today in Vilnius had a meeting with Seimas Speaker Juozas Olekas. The discussions were also attended by Remigijus Motuzas, Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, and Rimantas Sinkevičius, Chair of the Committee on National Security and Defence and of the Interparliamentary Relations Group with Moldova.
The sides addressed the strong cooperation between Moldova and Lithuania, parliamentary support for the country's European path and cooperation in the security sector.
“I am pleased that Lithuanian parliamentarians are standing with us as we advance along the European path. I thank them for their constant support throughout this process and for their openness to continuing the strong cooperation between Moldova and Lithuania,” Mihai Popsoi said.
The official thanked the Seimas for its support for Moldova’s European integration and highlighted the importance of dialogue between the two states in promoting reforms and the objective of joining the EU.
The Moldovan diplomacy head welcomed the Joint Declaration signed on March 30, 2026, by the chairs of the European affairs committees of the parliaments of the Nordic and Baltic states, Poland, and Germany, which reaffirms support for Moldova’s European path.
Particular emphasis was placed on the regional security situation and the challenges facing both countries. In the context, Mihai Popsoi praised Lithuania’s support in developing defence capabilities and countering hybrid threats, and underscored the importance of exchanging experience in these areas.
For their part, the Lithuanian parliamentarians confirmed willingness to continue close parliamentary cooperation and to support Moldova’s efforts to advance along its European path.
Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popsoi is paying a working visit to Lithuania today. During the visit, the official had meetings with Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda and Foreign Affairs Minister Kęstutis Budrys.
Also, during the visit, Mihai Popsoi will participate as a speaker in the discussion panel, The European Path of Moldova and the Country’s Foreign and Security Policy Priorities, organized by the Vilnius Centre for Geopolitics and Security Studies.
