Period of submitting documents for registration of candidates at new local elections starts in Moldova

The period for submitting documents for the registration of candidates at the new local elections will start on 11 April. The electoral constituency councils from first-level administrative and territorial units will start receiving the documents.

According to the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), political parties and electoral blocks must present the required set of documents to the electoral constituency councils in the administrative-territorial units where they intend to run.

As for independent candidates, the same requirements apply, except they must present subscription lists with the sufficient number of supporters' signatures. Independent candidates are required to come in person to the electoral constituency council in the administrative-territorial unit where they are set to run and submit the subscription lists along with the necessary registration documents.

The subscription list forms can be requested starting from April 11, from the electoral constituency council within the territorial jurisdiction where the independent candidate plans to run.

The list of candidates for the councilor position is prepared in Romanian and submitted to the electoral council, both on paper and electronically, observing the gender quota of at least 40 per cent for both genders and according to the formula - at least four candidates of the same gender for every 10 positions.

On May 18, new local elections for the position of mayor will take place in the commune of Calugar, Falesti district, the commune of Chiperceni, Orhei district, the village of Talmaza, Stefan Voda district, the commune of Bolduresti, Nisporeni district, and the village of Tabani, Briceni district, as well as elections for a new composition of the Temeleuti village council, Floresti district.
