Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs Minister Mihai Popsoi today had a meeting  with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, during which regional security, the shared European path of the two states, as well as the management of the hydrological situation in the Dniester River basin were discussed.

The talks focused on bilateral cooperation and the support provided by Moldova to Ukraine, as well as joint projects in the fields of transport, infrastructure and energy. An important topic of the meeting was cooperation in managing the hydrological situation in the Dniester River basin, in the context of the common interest of the two states in protecting water resources and ensuring environmental security.

“I had a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister of  Moldova Mihai Popsoi. I was glad to see the minister at the annual meeting of Ukraine’s ambassadors,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on social media.

The Ukrainian president noted that the foreign policy priorities of Ukraine and Moldova coincide in many areas, particularly in the field of security and European aspirations.

“It is important that we continue to move forward together across the entire spectrum of our common objectives. We also discussed a number of practical projects that can and must be implemented, especially in the fields of infrastructure and energy. For us, they are primarily issues of security and mutual support. I am grateful to Moldova for its consistent support for our people and for Ukraine’s defense,” the Kyiv leader said.

For his part, Mihai Popsoi reaffirmed Moldova’s support for Ukraine’s efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace, based on respect for Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders.

“Today marks 1,622 days since the Ukrainian people have been defending, with dignity and courage, their country, freedom and the future of their children. Behind this period lie lost lives, destroyed localities and millions of people affected by the unprovoked and illegal war of aggression launched by the Russian Federation. Despite these sufferings, Ukraine continues to demonstrate extraordinary resilience. Moldova will continue to be a reliable partner of Ukraine and, together with its partners, will contribute to strengthening peace and stability in the region,” Mihai Popsoi emphasized.

The officials also discussed the European agenda of Moldova and Ukraine, appreciating the cooperation between the two states and reconfirming their readiness to continue the exchange of experience and best practices to advance the process of European integration.

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popsoi praised the role of the Ukrainian diplomacy in mobilizing international support for Ukraine and reaffirmed Moldova’s solidarity with the Ukrainian people at the Annual Meeting of the Heads of Ukraine’s Diplomatic Missions. In his speech delivered in Ukrainian, the Moldovan diplomacy head condemned the war launched by the Russian Federation against Ukraine and stressed that the resistance of the Ukrainian people helps protect the whole of Europe, including Moldova.
