Moldova aims to become regional hub for medical tourism; authorities preparing strategy

Moldova aims to become a regional hub in the field of medical tourism and the authorities, together with the business community and the associative sector, have started discussions on developing a Dialogue Platform for Medical Tourism and a Roadmap for the 2026–2030 period.

The topic was addressed at a meeting organized at the initiative of the Economic Council under the Prime Minister of Moldova, in partnership with the Medical Tourism Association of Moldova.


The event was opened by Health Minister Emil Ceban, who reconfirmed the authorities’ support for the development of medical tourism and for promoting Moldova as a competitive destination in this field.

The participants analyzed developments in the sector, existing challenges and the need to strengthen cooperation between state institutions and the private sector. In the context, they discussed the creation of a Dialogue Platform for Medical Tourism, in order to provide a permanent coordination mechanism between the parties involved.


They also discussed drafting a Roadmap for the period 2026–2030, a document that will set out the development directions for the medical tourism sector of Moldova.


According to the data presented, the export of medical services has recorded significant growth in recent years, from 25.12 million dollars in 2020 to 85.44 million dollars in 2025.

The authorities’ goal is that, by 2030, the volume of exports of medical services should reach 500–700 million dollars, through investments in medical infrastructure, the promotion of services and strengthening the image of Moldova as a competitive destination for foreign patients.
