EU Commissioner in talks with Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Ministers

European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Marta Kos held a meeting with Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu and Deputy Prime Ministers of the Government of the Republic of Moldova. The European official congratulated Moldova on the sustained pace of reforms and on the results achieved.

Commissioner Kos emphasized that the Republic of Moldova is an example for other European Union partners – a sign of confidence in the country’s ability to move forward and turn reforms into concrete results.

According to the Delegation of the European Union to Chisinau, in less than a year since the launch of the Economic Growth Plan for the Republic of Moldova, 28 of the 30 planned reform stages have been completed. This progress has allowed the release of more than 500 million euros from European Union funds.

At the same time, the implementation of the reforms planned for 2026 could make it possible to access up to an additional 528 million euros from the European Union, the same source underlined.

Marta Kos is paying a visit to the Republic of Moldova from 4 to 6 June this year. The official started her visit by participating in the first Republic of Moldova – European Union Investment Conference, stressing that Moldova has carried out essential reforms that have allowed the country to advance on its European path and build a solid foundation for its future accession to the European Union.

The visit agenda today includes participation in the opening of the Moldova Digital Summit 2026, together with Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu. The official will also meet with Speaker Igor Grosu, members of the Parliamentary Committee on European Integration and with opposition leaders to discuss maintaining the pace of reforms and ensuring inclusiveness among parliamentary factions.

In addition, together with President Maia Sandu, Commissioner Kos will meet with representatives of young people from EU member states and partner countries for an exchange of views on the state of democracy in Europe and ways to strengthen its resilience in the face of external threats and challenges. Also during the visit, the Commissioner will meet with mayors from across Moldova for an exchange of views on local public administration reform.

The last visit of Marta Kos to Chisinau took place in last November.
