Moldovan Technical University launches Innovation Center for Viticulture and Winemaking for connecting research with wine industry
The wine sector of Moldova will benefit from a new development boost with the launch of the Innovation Center for Viticulture and Winemaking (CIVV). The new structure, dedicated to applied research, professional training and technology transfer to the wine industry, is meant to contribute to the modernization of production processes and to enhancing competitiveness on international markets, and was launched by the Technical University of Moldova (UTM).
The initiative comes in the context of efforts to consolidate the wine industry by introducing and testing modern technological solutions in viticulture and winemaking. The focus will be on improving production quality, streamlining processes and adapting to international standards in the field.
Producers will be able to benefit from laboratory services for soil, water, grape, and wine analysis, as well as technological consulting and support for plantation monitoring. In addition, the center will contribute to testing innovative solutions applied throughout the entire wine value chain, from works in vineyards to wine quality control.
Authorities in the field emphasize that the development of the wine sector increasingly depends on the integration of research and innovation into producers’ activities, given that the industry stays an important pillar of the national economy.
“The wine industry is a strategic sector for Moldova, with a major contribution to economic development, to promoting the country’s image, and to capitalizing on our traditions. In the context of current challenges, focusing on innovation, quality, and sustainability is necessary for increasing competitiveness and adapting to the demands of international markets,” said Andrian Digolean, State Secretary of the Agriculture and Food Industry Ministry.
At the same time, CIVV will support the development of digital solutions for plantation monitoring, traceability of wine products and smart marketing, promoting sustainable practices focused on efficiency and quality.
