MOLDPRES State Information Agency expands international cooperation: discussions with Greek Ambassador on media collaboration in Balkans, Southeast Europe

The State Information Agency MOLDPRES aims to expand its reach and visibility by developing cooperation with media institutions from the Balkans and Southeast Europe. The topic today was discussed at a meeting between the Agency's leadership and Ambassador of Greece to Moldova Chisinau, Nikolaos Krikos, who visited the AIS MOLDPRES headquarters.

The discussions were attended by the Agency's director, Vitalie Hadei, deputy director Viorel Buzdugan and the representative of the Information and Multimedia Office, Cornelia Stefoglu.

MOLDPRES director Vitalie Hadei welcomed the presence of the Greek ambassador and presented the main products of the institution, including the daily news flow and the Official Journal. The Agency's director highlighted the importance of cooperation with media institutions of Greece and requested the Embassy's support in facilitating dialogue with the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA), as well as in the process of MOLDPRES joining the Association of Balkan News Agencies – Southeast Europe (ABNA-SE).

“We believe that membership in ABNA-SE will significantly contribute to strengthening regional media cooperation, promoting democratic values, and facilitating the exchange of information among news agencies in Southeast Europe. We are fully open to initiating an ethical and institutional dialogue with the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA), with the aim of establishing a framework for bilateral collaboration that includes editorial exchanges, joint projects, and participation in regional media events,” said Vitalie Hadei.

Ambassador of Greece Nikolaos Krikos expressed openness to the idea of media cooperation between MOLDPRES and similar institutions in Greece, providing his support in formalizing these endeavors.

“The relations between Moldova and Greece have deep historical roots, and the opening of the Greek Embassy in Chisinau provides a new impetus for our cooperation. We are interested in all events occurring in Moldova and appreciate the substantial support provided by your country to Ukraine. Greece aims to become a hub for Ukraine's reconstruction, particularly taking on the reconstruction of the city of Odesa after the war,” Ambassador Krikos added.

During the meeting, the sides also discussed the possibility of organizing documentation visits to the region for journalists from Greece and Moldova, as well as participation in international media events.

In the end, director Vitalie Hadei offered Ambassador Nikolaos Krikos the  Constitution of the Republic of Moldova, newly edited by AIS MOLDPRES. The publication includes all amendments regarding the country's European integration vector, approved at the constitutional republican referendum on October 20, 2024, as well as those regarding the declaration of the Romanian language as the official state language.
