
On Europe Day, Parliament building illuminated in colors of European Union flag
The European Union flag was projected this evening on the Parliament building. The action is occasioned by Europe Day, marked annually on 9 May. The European flag symbolizes the solidarity among European countries and represents values such as democracy, dignity, freedom, equality, rule of law and human rights.
“Europe Day is a symbol of peace, unity and collaboration among nations. This day reminds us how important it is to build a united Europe together, where the values of democracy, solidarity and mutual respect are always defended,” Speaker Igor Grosu said.
Moldova's Growth Plan was signed today in Chisinau, an unprecedented financial aid for the development of the country offered by the European Union. The agreement was signed during the visit to the Republic of Moldova by European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos. The growth plan involves an ambitious agenda of institutional modernization and investments that will develop the national economy, improving people's quality of life. On Europe Day, cultural events were organized throughout the country, aimed at promoting European values.
The Republic of Moldova signed the Association Agreement with the EU in 2014. On 3 March 2022, our country's application for EU membership was signed. Subsequently, on 23 June 2022, the European Union granted candidate country status to the Republic of Moldova, and on 14 December 2023, the European Council decided to start accession negotiations for our country's EU membership.
