Registration process for heating compensation to start in November
Registration process on the government platform to benefit from heating compensation will start in November. This year, the assistance will be provided in monetary form. Minister of Labor and Social Protection Alexei Buzu made the statement today.
According to the official, the technical aspects necessary for the successful implementation of the citizen support program during the cold season are currently being prepared.
“I am referring to the digital system, interconnection with other public sector-managed databases, discussions and training of social-community assistants, and the creation of mobile teams. These steps are necessary to ensure that in communities where there will be a higher influx of citizens, our colleagues can provide all the due support. As soon as these issues are clarified, I will be able to communicate the exact way the program is to be implemented,” said Alexei Buzu.
The minister emphasized that, from an operational perspective, this is the most complex program managed by the Government of the Republic of Moldova, implying corresponding preparations.
“In the last four years, we have supported our citizens, who benefited from compensation depending on their level of energy vulnerability. I am confident that we will be able to achieve the same in the current winter. Additionally, from November, a phone line will be instituted to provide citizens with additional explanations. Referring to the number of beneficiaries, it is over 760,000 families or 1.4 million people who benefited from aid in the previous season. Therefore, we want to ensure that from an operational-technical perspective, we are prepared, and soon we will communicate all the details. Certainly, in November, we will start the registration process in the system. As we succeeded in the past four years, I am sure we will succeed again now,” mentioned Alexei Buzu.
The government is offering heating energy compensation to vulnerable households for the fourth consecutive year. The measure is included in the 'Help at the Meter' program. The compensation is granted for the cold season, which includes the months from November to March. For the 2024-2025 cold season, the authorities have allocated a total budget of 2.690 billion lei. Of the total amount, 1.150 billion lei have been provided by partner countries, predominantly from the European Union states.
Additionally, all families in the country benefit, throughout the entire year, from electricity compensation to cover the tariff increase applied last winter. The compensation covers the difference between the regulated price and the reference price, up to a maximum cap of 1.84 lei/kWh, applicable to the quantity of energy consumed monthly, which does not exceed the limit of 110 kWh per consumption site. According to the authorities, 110 kWh represents 80% of the average monthly electricity consumption for a family. The assistance is offered to all families, whether or not they have enrolled in the compensation system.
Granting electricity compensation for all households in the Republic of Moldova is carried out within the financial support package announced by the European Union for 2025.
