USMF 'Nicolae Testemitanu' to initiate internal investigation in case of Romanian doctors

The administration of the State University of Medicine and Pharmacy 'Nicolae Testemitanu' has taken note of the situation and will launch an internal investigation following searches conducted by Romanian authorities in a case involving several Romanian doctors.

The University also stated that it has not received any notification from the competent authorities in Romania or Moldova regarding cases involving Romanian doctors who are graduates of USMF 'Nicolae Testemitanu'.

'The State University of Medicine and Pharmacy 'Nicolae Testemitanu' reaffirms its commitment to adhering to legal norms, ethical principles, and high professional standards in medical education and practice,' said the university administration.

Minister of Health Emil Ceban, who until recently held the position of rector at the State University of Medicine and Pharmacy 'Nicolae Testemitanu', categorically rejected any accusation or suspicion that the institution issued residency diplomas to Romanian doctors who did not attend classes. 'It is fake,' said Ceban.

According to the investigation, they allegedly requested recognition in Romania of qualification titles obtained in Moldova, although, according to the evidence, the studies did not really take place. 'The University of Medicine cannot do such a thing,' replied the minister, in a press statement on 5 November.

He explained that the educational institution operates on a complex information system that continuously monitors each student's activity and excludes the possibility of data falsification.

According to a statement from the Romanian Police, on the morning of 5 November, 14 searches were conducted at an institution's headquarters and at the homes of certain individuals. 'The evidence showed that the residency studies, which would have required the obligatory physical presence of resident doctors at the university clinical bases, did not actually take place, given that during the specialization courses, the resident doctors were in Romania where they were fully employed,' the Romanian Police press release reads.
