Three men have been placed in custody for 30 days, while a woman is being investigated at large for smuggling drugs and distributing them via the Telegram app. As a result of the searches, law-enforcers confiscated narcotic substances worth over 2.5 million lei.
According to the police, among the suspects, there is a couple of refugees from Ukraine who rented two apartments in Chisinau. One was used as a residence, and the other was turned into a drug warehouse. The illicit substances were shipped through Moldova's postal service, camouflaged in packages with food products sent from EU countries and Canada.
The couple recruited two individuals, aged between 17 and 30, tasked with dividing the drugs into doses and hiding them in various locations, according to instructions received on Telegram.
During the searches conducted in the two apartments used by the suspects, mobile phones, drugs of different types, approximately 5,000 zip-lock bags, adhesive tape, and high-precision electronic scales were seized. At the same timey, upon checking a parcel at the Moldova Post office, 4 kg of marijuana and 70 electronic cigarettes loaded with cannabis oil were discovered.
The total value of the seized drugs exceeds 2.5 million lei.
Following the prosecutors' actions, three men have been placed in custody for 30 days. The woman is being investigated under conditional release, since she has a minor child and no relatives in Moldova. She is obligated not to leave the city.
According to the legislation, the suspects face sentences of up to 15 years in prison.
