Historic table tennis result for Moldova: Alexandra Chiriacova wins bronze medal at European Championships

Sportswoman Alexandra Chiriacova has won the bronze medal in the women’s doubles event at the Under-21 European Table Tennis Championships, achieving a historic result for table tennis of Moldova.

Alexandra Chiriacova was the only representative of the country at the Under-21 European Table Tennis Championships and this is the first medal won by the  Moldovan athlete at a continental competition.

The sportswoman from Moldova teamed up with Slovenian player Sara Tokic at the continental competition hosted by the city of Cluj-Napoca, Romania.

Before stepping onto the podium, Chiriacova/Tokic recorded three victories and lost in the semifinals, 3–2, to the pair made up of Romanian Bianca Mei-Roşu and Ukrainian Veronica Matiunina.

This year, Alexandra Chiriacova also won the national women’s title at the seniors’ category.
