Moldovan athletes win six medals at World University Championship Combat Sports in Brazil

Moldovan athletes won six medals at the World University Championship Combat Sports held in Brazil, with most members of the national team managing to reach the podium.

According to the Ministry of Education and Research, the best results were achieved in women’s wrestling and muaythai events. Freestyle wrestlers Mihaela Samoil and Irina Rîngaci became World University Champions in their respective weight categories.

A gold medal was also claimed by Andrei Avramov, who prevailed in the final of his category after defeating Mexican athlete Luis Emilio Gonzalez.

The medal tally of the Moldovan delegation was completed by three silver medals, earned by Ion Demian, Alexandru Solovei, and Gabriel Lupașco.

Another two representatives of the Republic of Moldova, Constantin Chirilov and Sergiu Lupașco, finished the competition in fifth place in the freestyle wrestling events.
