Moldovan weightlifter Dan Secrieru wins the silver medal at the European Championships taking place at the Chișinău Arena. The Moldovan athlete competed in the 55-kilogram category.

Dan Secrieru brings the first medals for the Republic of Moldova at the European Weightlifting Championships.

“Three valuable medals - one bronze and two silver - confirm not only the talent and exemplary preparation of this young athlete but also that the sport in the Republic of Moldova has a future.  Dan Secrieru's success, at just 17, is a source of pride for the entire country and an inspiration for young generations. Hosting, for the first time, a European championship of such magnitude in the Republic of Moldova shows that we are ready to support high-performance sports at the highest level,” Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun said.

The first place was claimed by Bulgarian weightlifter Angel Rusev (246 kg). Third place went to Georgian Ramini Shamilishvili (243 kg).
