Moldovan foreign ministry starts talks on setting up Civil Society Platform

Chisinau, 20 December /MOLDPRES/ - The Foreign and European Integration Ministry (MAEIE) has launched talks on creation of a civil society platform, provided for in the article 442 of the Moldova-EU Association Agreement. MAEIE  also organised more meetings with representatives of NGOs, Moldovan trade unions and employers associations in the past weeks, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry’s information and media relations department has reported.

The platform is to work as a forum of discussions and exchange of information on enforcing the Association Agreement between representatives of the Moldovan and EU civil societies. The accord stipulates that the Civil Society Platform is to be made up of representatives of EU civil society, including members of the European Economic and Social Committee, as well as of the Moldovan civil society. The platform will set its own rules of procedure and dates for holding n meetings, and will be chaired alternately by the European Economic and Social Committee and representatives of Moldova's civil society.

Thus, the Moldovan civil society is to decide on organisations which are to represent Moldova within the platform, to establish the way they are to be selected, as well as their mandate.

At the first consultative meetings, the participants in the discussions assumed the role of initiative group, that will foster the Moldovan side's coagulation within the concerned platform.
